Learn Sewing Corsetry and Lingerie with the Merry Widow Sew-Along
Do you want to learn sewing corsetry and/or lingerie? The Monet Merry Widow is a corset-meets-lingerie pattern that is timelessly elegant. Whether you’re completely new to lingerie or corset sewing or looking to elevate your sewing skills, our Monet Merry Widow sew-along guides you every step of the way.
What Is a Merry Widow?
A Merry Widow blends the structure of a corset with the allure of lingerie, creating a flattering and supportive design perfect for special occasions—or just because! Historically, corsets are made with non stretch fabric. During the 1950s, corsets evolved and incorporated stretch fabric – the Merry Widow was born. Featuring boning for structure, corset and lingerie fabrics, and delicate detailing, this design lets you experiment with both types of lingerie and sewing techniques like underwire insertion, cup fitting, and strategic seaming for shaping.
Monet Merry Widow
Monet is a Merry Widow corset inspired pattern that combines elements of vintage lingerie with modern design elements. It is designed to be a versatile garment, and transitions from a lingerie piece worn underneath clothing to outerwear layered under a blazer or a sheer top. Ideal for lingerie enthusiasts and advanced sewists, the Monet allows you to create a luxurious me-made garment that combines both craftsmanship and style.
View A: Merry Widow corset features a semi-sheer lace panel in the center front. The side and middle panels, made from both stretch and non stretch fabrics, offer both comfort and a figure-hugging fit. The adjustable waist tab enhances the figure-hugging fit by cinching in the waist even more. The supportive 3-part bra cup is designed to accommodate a wide range of sizes. Decorative stitching and foam on the lower cups adds unique detail. Adjustable shoulder straps and boning along the bodice provide added support, while the hook and eye closure down the back provides an easy way to put the corset on and off.
View B: The matching thong is made with coordinating fabrics. Its simple design complements the corset top without distracting from its details. Lace insert on the front, fold over elastic on the leg opening, and wide elastic on the waistline.
